Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, accused Iran of sponsoring extremist activities aimed at destabilizing countries in many parts of the world.
The ambassador stated this on Friday during an interview on Arise News, claiming that the country is doing this, while at the same time continuing its hostility towards Israel.
The envoy, while referring to repeated threats against Israel, claimed that Iran is the only country in the UN that has openly expressed a desire to destroy another sovereign state.
According to him, the Iranian government, for decades, has supported militant groups and terror organizations around the world in achieving these goals, adding that Iran has supported groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah for years.
He added that Tehran was also behind Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
He further claimed that Iranian activities aimed at spreading instability have been observed in several regions, including Europe, Australia and parts of Africa.

Speaking specifically about Nigeria, the Israeli ambassador accused the Nigerian Islamic Movement of receiving support from the Iranian government.
According to Freeman, statements of support from Iranian leaders, including posts by Ali Khamenei on social media, openly indicate such a connection.
He said: “The issue here is about Iran. Iran is the only country in the world, in the UN, that clearly wants to wipe another country off the face of the earth. Iran has stated its policy is to destroy Israel. Wiping Israel off the map means making sure that it kills everyone and no regime, no country has a clear desire to destroy Israel, and that’s not just an expressed desire.
“We’ve seen for 47 years, they’ve taken every action they can to make that happen. We’ve seen them sponsor terror organizations. They were behind the seventh massacre of Hamas in October. We’ve seen them sponsor Hezbollah. We’ve seen them act in Europe. We’ve seen them act in Australia. We’ve seen them act in Nigeria.
“We have seen these people act around the world to spread distractions for them to try and carry out their goal of destroying Israel, and Israel will not allow other countries to have nuclear weapons when they have unequivocally stated that they want them to destroy Israel.”
“I think this is well documented. We know that there are certain movements, for example the Islamic movement in Nigeria that are sponsored and supported by the Iranian regime. I am not saying this, we have seen it documented by the Iranian regime.
The Supreme Leader posted on X his endorsement and support there. So it’s very open. And there are also other areas that Iran is pursuing, which is causing destabilization, not just in Nigeria, but throughout West Africa.”
