Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has outlined conditions under which his country could consider ending the ongoing conflict, and stressed that any ceasefire must be backed by strong international guarantees to prevent further attacks.
In a message posted Wednesday on X, the Iranian leader said that ending the war would depend on assurances that hostilities against Iran would cease permanently.
He wrote that the only way to end the conflict is through a binding commitment from the international community.
Pezeshkian also demanded compensation for damage caused during the fighting and stressed that Iran’s national interests must be recognized.
He stated that reparations were needed and Iran’s “legitimate rights” should be recognized.

Although the president did not specify what those rights include, analysts monitoring Iran’s domestic politics believe the reference may be related to the country’s recent leadership transition and hopes that the international community recognizes the appointment of a new supreme leader.
The statement comes amid rising tensions following the emergence of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new religious leader and head of state.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump, President of the United States, expressed his dissatisfaction with Khamenei’s rise to power and warned that the new leader could face serious challenges.
“I don’t believe he can live in peace,” Trump said without providing further details.
