  • A senior Iranian security official, Ali Larijani, has issued a warning to US President Donald Trump, rejecting his threats against Iran and warning him to “be careful not to get eliminated”.
  • Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and former speaker of parliament, made the observation in a post on
  • In the post, the Iranian official rejected the American president’s threats and insisted that Iran would not be intimidated.
  • “The sacrificial nation of Iran does not fear your empty threats. Even those greater than you could not eliminate Iran. Be careful not to be eliminated yourself,” Larijani wrote.
  • The exchange marks the latest escalation in the war that erupted after the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran on February 28, killing the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and triggering a broader regional conflict.
  • Since the attacks, tensions across the Middle East have escalated, with Iran reportedly launching missile and drone attacks across the region.
  • According to the Associated Press, Iran continued its military pressure on Tuesday by targeting Israel and several Gulf countries with missiles and drones.
  • Trump had earlier issued a stark warning to Tehran over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman through which about a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
  • On Monday evening, the US president vowed that Washington would respond with overwhelming force if Iran attempted to block the waterway.
  • “We will eliminate easily destructible targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to rebuild as a nation again,” Trump threatened.
  • “Death, fire and fury will reign over them. But I hope and pray that this does not happen,” he added.
  • Trump also highlighted the international importance of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that it is widely used by major economies, including China and other countries dependent on oil shipments that pass through the corridor.
  • “This is a gift from the United States of America to China and all those nations that use Hormuz heavily,” he said. “We hope it is a gesture that will be greatly appreciated.”
  • US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also strengthened the president’s position during a press conference at the Pentagon last Tuesday.
  • “He takes the condition of that Strait very seriously. We have capabilities that no nation in the world has and we are certainly working with our energy partners across the Administration,” Hegseth said.
  • The war, now in its eleventh day, has already disrupted maritime activity around the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Shipping movements through the passage have slowed dramatically as Iran targets oil tankers, forcing many shipping companies to seek longer alternative routes.
  • The disruption also triggered a sharp rise in shipping costs, while several insurers reportedly withdrew war risk protections for oil companies and tanker operators amid growing uncertainty in the region.
