It is time for you to have declared a state of emergency in Benue, San Beg …- Theconclaveng

Following the continuous deterioration of the security situation in Benue’s state, a senior supporter of Nigeria (San), Professor Sabastine Hon asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state emergency to save lives in the state.

The Senior lawyer in a 6 -page petition to President Tinubu cataloged the way thousands of lives and properties had already been lost for the invaders against unfortunate citizens of the state and said that the state of emergency had become inevitable.

Hon, who is a constitutional lawyer, also affirmed in the petition that the governor of the state, Rev. P. Hyacinth alia was without ideas while the security agents hit bandits and killers to kill innocent citizens of the state.

As a result of this evident gap in guaranteeing the life of the people of the State, the Senior supporter requested the immediate retreat of all the safety agents in Benue and replace them with new ones who may not indulge in such alignment acts with terrorists.

He said that while the situation was under control in states such as Zamfara, Sokoto, Kano and Kaduna, the situation is deteriorating in Benue.

According to Hon, “the fact that the governor of the state of Benue, Hyacinth alia, continues to label the huge killings in progress in Benue’s state as simple” scaramucce “and therefore justify his reluctance to face the question is embarrassing”

He continued: “The fact that the military commanders in Benue’s state seem to have crashed everyone with the killers is also curious. Too many examples abound; but”.

He listed the massacre of Agan, a community along Lafia-Makurdi Road in the area of the northern bank of Makurdi Metropolis on 29 May 2025 in broad daylight by terrorists as a classic example.

Hon has regretted that “even if there is a military barracks in the same Banca Nord and the soldiers were lined up to arrest the situation, everything was left to chance.”

He added that on May 24, 2025, Rev, p. Solomon Atongo, a Catholic priest, was attacked and shot, while he was heading from Makurdi to Naka, headquarters of the local government area of Gwer-West while his co-passages were kidnapped.

According to the petition, “the scene was about 500 meters from a military checkpoint, but none of the checkpoint soldiers came to his rescue until the attackers left him dead. He is lucky to be alive today.”

The erudite legal professional also stated in the petition that there have been several online accusations of the complicity of the military in the attacks.

For example, “on May 31, 2025, the Catholic priests have directly accused the military of complicity and further informed the world in which the Church has lost priests and lay people and has closed over 15 parishes in Benue’s state”, said Hon.
