The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, applauded the Governor of the State of Kaduna Uba Sani for restoring the Ministry of State Information.
The minister described the move as timely and strategic, adding that the Ministry would serve as the first -line institution in the fight with false and rhetorical divisive news, thus improving public trust through timely and culturally relevant communications.
The praise was contained in a declaration issued by the director of the press and the protocol in the ministry, dr. Suleiman Haruna, Friday 23 May 2025.
Idris observed that the decision, which arrives a decade after the dissolution of the Ministry, aligns with the resolutions of the meeting of the National Council on information (NCI) held in December 2024.
It will be remembered that states have been invited to revitalize or establish information ministries to strengthen governance and public commitment.
“I congratulate the government of the Kaduna state for making this bold pass, which strengthens our collective commitment for transparent governance and communication focused on citizens,” said Idris.
He observed that the restoration of the ministry reflects Kaduna’s alignment with the push of the federal government towards an ecosystem of unified and reactive information.
This system, said, encourages the collaboration between federal and state structures to combat disinformation and promote national cohesion.
The minister said that the Ministry’s awakening will increase the synergy between federal and state information agencies on key national priorities such as security, health, education and economic reforms.
“With a fully functional ministry, Kaduna residents will have better access to the information verified on government’s policies, programs and opportunities, promoting participatory inclusiveness and governance,” added Idris.
The minister urged other states to follow the example of Kaduna, noting that the information ministries are essential to fill the communication gaps and promote inclusive development.
