Jagaban Cup: Hat-trick hero Bakare confident in clash against Ikorodu City

Ayomide Bakare has expressed her satisfaction with her outstanding performance in FC Broad Citywhere he scored a brilliant hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Mavlon FC on matchday one of the Jagaban Cup 2026 at the Surulere National Stadium.

The striker, who became the first player to score three goals in this year’s competition, admitted that the match was far from easy despite the convincing scoreline.

“I feel good despite the intensity of the match. Our opponents were not an easy team to face,” Bakare said.

Ayomide attributed his goals to teamwork and strong chemistry within the team, emphasizing the role of collective effort in his individual success.

“All thanks to God and my teammates for the connection. The understanding within the team paved the way for those goals. Those goals are fantastic.”

Looking ahead, Bakare has already turned his attention to Broad City’s upcoming challenge against Ikorodu City FC, a match expected to test their title ambitions.

“This is not the first time we have played against a tough team like Ikorodu City. We will try to maintain possession as always, and a win for us will be crucial to decide qualification for the final four.”

The winger also acknowledged the importance of the Jagaban Cup and similar competitions as springboards in the careers of young Lagos footballers.

“We understand the platform and how it works. Competitions like the Jagaban Cup and the Supremacy Cup are avenues for players to grow professionally. We will continue to do our best to stand out and be selected among others.”

With confidence high and momentum on his side, Bakare’s form could prove vital as Broad City FC fight for a place in the latter stages of the competition.
