Veteran Jamaican dancehall singer, Mark Anthony Myrie aka Buju Banton, has revealed his Nigerian roots surprising his fans.
The “Destiny” singer, who spoke during her recent appearance on the popular podcast Drink Champs co-hosted by NORE and DJ EFN, revealed her Igbo heritage.
The singer said his tribe is Moron, which is a descendant of the Igbo people.
However, he expressed grave concern about the situation in his country, saying the Maroons’ native territories were in danger.

Additionally, Buju Banton said the Jamaican government has allowed Chinese and other foreigners to move into their areas and displaced the Maroons.
He said: “Our Indigenous way of life and our land is under threat from the current Jamaican government who are trying to bring Chinese and other nationalities into the Cockpit area which is sacred Indigenous territory to usurp our authority as Maroons as warriors.
“The Maroons are some of the Native warriors of my Island. We fought the British relentlessly. We are called Blackmaroons. My generation is from Nigeria. I am Igbo by blood.”
