Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has called on the Nigerian government not to bow to mounting pressure and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the banned Igbo separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Igbokwe who has been highly critical of the IPOB leader, made the call in a series of posts on his Facebook page on Thursday, insisting that Kanu was a terrorist who tricked his followers into killing thousands of Igbo people through his words and orders and as such, did not deserve forgiveness or a soft landing.
In one of his posts, former Senior Special Assistant on Drainage to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said that a person who can incite the killing of his people should face serious prosecution.
“Someone who led Igbo young men and women to kill our people in 10 years, burn our homes, steal our wives, close our markets and businesses, and so on, is not worthy of pity or forgiveness.”
Igbokwe who was also embroiled in the controversy surrounding Kanu’s health which his lawyer used as an argument for his release from detention, said the IPOB leader was not sick.
According to Igbokwe, Kanu’s lawyers only used the disease angle as a ploy to get him released.
“Let me say this here this morning so that all Igbo people in Nigeria and the diaspora know. Nnamdi Kanu is 110% fine. Let us not deceive ourselves. Let us tell the truth for once and shame the devil. Nnamdi killed thousands of our people and businesses. They say he is sick. He is not sick at all. All claims about his health are lies from the hail pit.”
Igbokwe who also spoke on the upcoming #FreeNnamdiKanu protest organized by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore scheduled for October 20, asked the former presidential aspirant to put aside the idea and not dabble in the matter as it would be tantamount to spitting on the graves of thousands of Igbo killed on Kanu’s instructions.
“I want the world to hear my voice. Those who know Sowore well should tell him not to march and spit on the graves of thousands of Igbo people killed on Nnamdi Kanu’s instructions from 2015 to 2025. The huge damage in Lagos is still there.
“Kanu does not deserve mercy, only fair treatment guaranteed by our constitution, so that he can be tried for every crime he is accused of. Law enforcement must not be selective. He incited violence against Nigeria and Nigerians, and he must be held accountable for that,” he said.
