The chapter of the State of Lagos of All Progressives Congress (APC) claims to have observed with acute interest the growing speculations that surround the possible return of the former President Goodluck Jonathan to the 2027 presidential race.
The news agency of Nigeria (Nan) reports that Jonathan, who lost its re -election offer in 2025 with the deceased president Muhammadu Buhari, was persuaded by supporters to seek the re -election in the general elections of 2027.
Speaking, the party spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, in a declaration of Friday, noted that the political relevance of the former president for the discomfort of President Bola Tinubu, remained in doubt.
“As we recognize the role of the former president in the peaceful democratic transition of 2015 – an act that rightly earned him praise at home and abroad – we must affirm, in clear terms, that Nigeria has moved beyond the policy of feeling, nostalgia and symbolism.
“The challenges of today and the future require bold leadership, capable and far -sighted, not a return to the comfort of a past that was far from perfect.
“Let it be clear: good luck alone is not a governance strategy,” he said.

Oladejo said that the administration of Jonathan, from 2010 to 2015, left a country struggling with serious structural weaknesses – from uncontrolled corruption to alarming insecurity and economic inertia.
“While some can look back in those years with colored glasses, we must remember ourselves that nostalgia is not a political platform.
“The emotion cannot guide the economic reform and sentimentalism will not fix the generation of energy, insecurity, youth unemployment or the decay of the educational sector,” said Cape APC.
Oladejo said that the party also noticed the constitutional and political complications of a potential Jonathan candidacy.
According to him, after completing more than one mandate in office, any return offer will inevitably trigger legal dispute and political instability: distractions Nigeria cannot afford at a time when a decisive action is needed in all sectors of national life.
“In addition, the political relevance of the former president was complicated by his recent commitments through the party lines.
“His flirtation with the APC and absence from the strategic reconstruction efforts of the PDP raises questions about his loyalty, clarity of vision and political intentions,” he said.
According to him, the APC remains focused on consolidated progress, in the implementation of the reforms and on the involvement of the Nigerian electorate with new ideas and credible candidates who reflect the aspirations of a dynamic and young population.
“We believe that Nigeria’s future is not in the recycled leadership, but in visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation and resilience.
“Former president Jonathan remains an elderly respected statesman. Her inheritance as a Pacific Democrat is ensured. But the inheritance are not manifest and nostalgia is not governance.
“We urge the Nigerians to refuse emotional shortcuts and remain focused on the need for capable, responsible and transformative leadership.
“With the approach of 2027, we do not arrive back in despair, but we go on with courage and clarity,” said Oladejo. (Nan)
