Napoli’s President, Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Jose Mourinho on board as the team’s manager for the upcoming season, as disclosed by Naples-based tabloid Tutto Napoli.
This development follows Mourinho’s recent departure from AS Roma on Monday, a move that has sparked interest among Italian clubs, including Napoli.
De Laurentiis, currently uncertain about retaining Walter Mazzarri, is actively seeking a potential successor.
According to journalist Carlo Alvino, there has been established contacts between Napoli and Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager being proposed as a potential candidate.
Alvino further revealed that Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, initiated a conversation with President De Laurentiis, gauging the Italian’s interest in hiring Mourinho.
In a social media post, Alvino stated, “Mendes-De Laurentiis phone call. In the course of post-exoneration calls, Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s agent, spoke to ADL to understand if there was any interest in his client. A wait-and-see response from the Italian president.”
Mourinho’s affinity for Napoli is not new, as he openly expressed his support for the team during their successful Scudetto-winning campaign last season.
The prospect of managing Napoli, coupled with the opportunity to work with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, could be a compelling draw for Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho and striker Victor Osimhen have mutual respect and affection for each other.
The duo were spotted at Stadio Olimpico in December, speaking during Napoli’s match against Roma, and the public display of affection highlights the positive rapport between the two figures.
