Josh Maja faces Extended Absence due to Injury

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Josh Maja is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months due to an ankle ligament injury sustained during the clash with his former side Sunderland.

Making his first start for Albion since recovering from a previous ankle injury against Bristol City, Maja was forced off during the first half at the Stadium of Light after a challenge from Dan Ballard.

CorberΓ‘n disclosed that the Forward is likely to undergo surgery, ruling him out until the latter stages of the Championship campaign.

β€œIn the tackle against Sunderland they injured all the ligaments in his ankle, it depends and the doctors still need to ask for a second opinion to see if there is any ligament to fix without surgery,” CorberΓ‘n told the club’s official website.

β€œNormally he will need surgery and be out of the team for the next four months. It’s the worst news we can give.”

Maja has been unlucky with injury since joining the club from French side Girondins Bordeaux last summer.

The forward has managed to make just nine league appearances for the Baggies this season with one goal to his name.
