‘Journey in the Sahara,’ Shehu Sani mocks Atiku during his visit to Buhari

Former Senator from Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s visit to past President Muhammadu Muhammadu Buhari as a ‘journey in the Sahara.”

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, on Saturday visited Buhari in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

The former vice president, who was accompanied on his trip to Daura by former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and several top PDP figures, reportedly held a closed-door meeting at the former president’s house.

Many believe that the visit is part of Atiku’s big move to run for the 2027 elections.

Prior to the visit to Buhari, Atiku had also paid similar visits to former Military President Ibrahim Babangida and former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar at their residences in Niger State.

“Accompanied by several stakeholders of our big party, @OfficialPDPNig, we visited the Daura residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari to pay a courtesy call and pay respects to Sallah,” Atiku later wrote on his X account.

Sani, who reacted to the development on his X handle on Sunday, said the trip was fine if it was just a tribute to Sallah.

However, he added jokingly that it would be like “walking in the Sahara” if there were any political undertones.

“If Daura’s visit is to honor Sallah, that’s fine. If this is a political mission, it is like trekking in the Sahara,” wrote the former lawmaker.
