The Kaduna State Government has reached a truce with the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC) following a deadlock over a N600 million tax debt.
The dispute, which escalated into a physical altercation with the sealing of the DisCo headquarters by the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) and subsequent power outage to government facilities, has now been resolved.
The crisis erupted when KADIRS obtained a court order to seal the Discotheque’s premises over alleged unpaid taxes. In retaliation, KAEDC cut off electricity to government buildings and other state-owned facilities, claiming a debt of N2.9 billion.

However, a series of high-level meetings between officials from both sides have produced a resolution.
KAEDC, in a statement on Monday, said all disputed issues had been resolved after a series of meetings involving top officials from the company and the state government.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Kaduna Electric is committed to continue paying taxes and other government levies and dues as required,” the DisCo said.
“Similarly, the Kaduna State Government has also promised to settle the electricity bills of ministries, departments and agencies when due.”
