The three surviving children of Kaduna judge Janet Gimba have been reunited with their parents after being rescued from kidnappers. Judge Gimba and her four children were kidnapped when bandits stormed their residence on June 23.
Bandits killed the couple’s eldest son after his father failed to pay the exorbitant ransom demanded. The bandits freed Justice Gimba on Sunday, July 7 and demanded a ransom of N150 million for the release of his three surviving sons, giving them a three-day ultimatum.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 10, the judge’s husband, Dr Musa Gimba, said he was reunited with his three rescued children on Tuesday, July 9. He said his eldest son was killed before his wife was released. Gimba said his children were rescued after a successful rescue operation conducted by security forces.
He said: “On behalf of my family, I wish to make this statement to inform the public that yesterday, July 9, 2024, my wife and I were reunited with our 3 surviving children. “As you may recall, rather tragically, during the ordeal that began with their kidnapping on June 23, 2024, the first of our children was killed by the kidnappers before the mother was released for a ransom of N150 million.
“However, the security forces, displaying exceptional professionalism and courage, successfully conducted the rescue operation. Thanks to meticulous planning and coordination, led by the Office of the National Security Adviser, our three surviving children are now free. “While we still mourn with deep sorrow the loss of our eldest son, whose life was cut short before its prime, we thank God for the opportunity He has given us to reunite with our surviving children.
“We want to use this medium to somehow put an end to this harrowing and unforgettable experience, which we do not wish upon anyone. We also want to use this opportunity to thank all those who, in one way or another, have been instrumental in getting us to this point. Of particular mention are the following groups and individuals…” He thanked the NSA, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for their efforts in ensuring the rescue of his children. Gimba added: “The NSA, Nuhu Ribadu and his office, for their tireless efforts in making this day a reality. The Office of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for their involvement and tireless commitment to this matter.
