The Kano state government has postponed general elections in 44 local government areas in the state for four weeks.
The chairman of the state Independent National Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Sani Malumfashi, who spoke to journalists on Friday in Kano, said the election would now take place on October 26.
The previous vote was scheduled for November 30.

Malumfashi said: βIn recognition and in line with the recent Supreme Court decision, the mutual agreement between the states and the Federal Government following the expiry of the October deadline.
βThe commission was legally forced to reschedule the regional head elections to October 26, instead of November 30.β
The commission has set the nomination fee at Rp10 million for the position of chairman and Rp5 million for the position of board member.
