The Governor of the State Kano Abba Kabir Yusuf has praised the Ball President Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of the State Edo on Monday Okpebholo for their rapid response to the tragic killings of 16 native Kano in Uromi, Edo state.
He, however, called for a greater transparency in the process of justice, insisted that those who were responsible must be held accountable for public.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Kano State, Kawan Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Thursday, Governor Yusuf recognized rapid intervention by the Federal and Edo state governments. He described their visit to the affected family, especially in Toranke – the hometown of most victims – as demonstrations of solidarity and care.
Apart from this effort, the Governor emphasized the need for a clear and open legal process.
“We appreciate the actions taken so far, but justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. The canoe people, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve to see those who are responsible for the massacre are brought to the court publicly,” he said.
Governor Yusuf also praised the involvement of the Governor of Okpebholo with the Hausa community in the state of Edo to prevent further ethnic tensions. He praised Okpebholo’s commitment to compensate for mourning families and urged that compensation was delivered without delay to support those who had lost their main providers.

In addition, Governor Yusuf expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for directing security bodies to quickly capture and demand the people behind the murder. He noted that the firm intervention of the federal government reflected its responsibility to ensure the safety and safety of all Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Toranke people have expressed their appreciation for the coordinated efforts of the Governments of the Edo and Federal states in handling the tragedy. However, many are still looking for guarantees that justice will be carried out transparently and without political intervention.
Both the Governors of Joseph and Okpebholo have promised to oversee the overall and open judicial process, emphasizing that preventing the incidence of violence in the future is a top priority.
The government of Kano states further vowed to oversee the trial to ensure that justice was served and that the families of the victims received full support and compensation.
