Kano Gov ordered an investigation into the alleged role of the Commissioner in the alleged Baron Narcotics Guarantee

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba, Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a comprehensive investigation of the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in a controversial guarantee of a suspected drug smuggler, Sulaiman Wawu, known as and Wawu.

The instructions, announced in a statement released on Saturday by a spokesman for the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, followed the public concern that extended to the report that the name of the Commissioner appeared in an official document related to the release of the suspect. The suspect, Wawu, was arrested on charges related to the narcotics trade but was reportedly given a guarantee in a controversial condition.

According to the statement, the state government seriously considers this problem, seeing it as a potential humiliation of the ongoing anti-narcobic campaign. “Governor ABBA Yusuf has ordered the constitution directly from the Special Investigation Committee to uncover the situation around the guarantee and to recommend the necessary actions,” the statement said.

The committee will be chaired by Aminu Hussain, a special advisor to the governor of justice and constitutional issues. Other members including Hamza Haladu, Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, Retired Major General Sani Muhammad, Kabiru said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who would serve as secretaries.

When inaugurating the committee, Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over what he described as a possibility of misuse of interference and political interference in the justice system. He reiterated the zero policy of his government tolerance regarding drug trafficking and all forms of involvement by public officials.

“Nothing is above the law,” said the Governor. “This government will not forgive any action that endangers the safety and welfare of our people. We are fully committed to eradicating drug abuse, which remains one of the most urgent social challenges in Kano today.”

At the time of submitting this report, Commissioner Namadi had not yet issued a public response to the accusation. However, the quick steps of the state government to start a formal investigation underline their efforts to maintain public trust and uphold accountability in their ranks.

The controversy surrounding the exemption of Wawu has attracted a sharp reaction from civil society groups and residents, many of them have called for transparency and justice. The arrest of the alleged Baron drug had previously been praised as a milestone in the state war on narcotics, especially in the midst of increasing concerns about drug -related crimes among the canoe youth populations.

Governor Yusuf, who has made the war against drug abuse as the central theme of his government, has repeatedly warned of all forms of sabotage, swearing that those who are found guilty will be prosecuted, regardless of their status or affiliation.

Investigation panels have been assigned to send their findings without delay.
