Kano Pillars, a prominent football team, has been facing challenges in their away games. The teamโs technical adviser, Abdullahi Maikaba, attributes these struggles to the absence of a dedicated sports commissioner in the state government.

The team recently faced a crushing defeat against Enyimba, losing 5-0 in a match held in Aba. The team arrived at the venue on the same day of the match, which Maikaba believes significantly affected their performance.
โThe game against Enyimba was difficult, given the way we travelled,โ Maikaba stated. The team had to arrive at 2 am on the day of the match due to flight availability, which he believes contributed to the teamโs poor performance.
Maikaba highlighted the lack of a sports commissioner as a significant issue. โWe donโt have a commissioner for sports, and itโs becoming difficult for the management to find a solution,โ he said.
He believes that the appointment of a sports commissioner could alleviate the teamโs struggles, as it is a government club and securing funds can be challenging.
However, Maikaba remains hopeful for the future. โWe are in a very good position with the squad that we have. We are not far from a continental spot, and we can still recover and achieve our target for the season,โ he said.
The state government has recently screened two candidates for the position of sports commissioner, which Maikaba sees as a positive step towards resolving the teamโs issues.
He expressed relief at this development and is optimistic that the appointment of a sports commissioner will significantly improve the teamโs performance.
