Kaspersky’s report revealed that African business suffered an increase of 14%

A report by Russia’s multinational cybersecurity company Kaspersky has revealed that the African business has increased 14% in spyware attacks in 2024.

This report added that from 2023 to 2024, business in Africa was targeted by web threats, threats on devices, and attacks aimed at stealing data, including spyware thieves and passwords.

Phishing and Ransomware continue to be a significant threat in the region, with 66 million clicks of the Phishing link seen by Kaspersky in Africa in 2024, including more than 14.8 million click phishing links by company users.

In addition, there is an increase of 26% in the detection of password thieves. Password thief is a type of malware designed to harvest login credentials and other sensitive data.

“Our statistics show an increase in attack detection for several types of cyberreats, and the factors that encourage this increase. In the B2B sector, sustainable shifts towards the hybrid work model and are hunted to bite operations -often surpassing cybersecurity investments -can make businesses in Africa exposed to threats that are continuous.

“In the B2C room, the explosion of digital financial services, coupled with a low digital literacy level, makes the main target individual for opportunistic attacks,” commented Maher Yamout, the main cybersecurity researcher with the Kaspersky’s global research and analysis team.

Organizations in Africa must prioritize an integrated approach by increasing collaboration, investing in special cybersecurity training, and promoting digital literacy to effectively fight the waves of rising cyberspace crimes. Initiatives such as African cyber surge operations and targeted educational programs can function as blueprints. He added.
