Kelechi Iheanacho continued his recent resurgence with an outstanding exhibition for Middlesbrough, registering two assists in his 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the clash of the championship of Friday night.
The Nigerian striker, who scored his first goal for Boro in his 2-1 victory over Oxford United last weekend, was rewarded with a starting point of Manager Michael Carrick. And he did not disappoint.
Iheanacho did not waste time making an impact, establishing Tommy Conway for the first game of only two minutes in the game.
His well weighted pass allowed Conway to move the ball behind a defender and shoot beyond goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.
Six minutes later, Iheanacho did it again. This time, he examined Samuel Iling-Junior, who hit a thunderous effort in the lower corner to double Boro’s advantage.
It was a safe and selfless exhibition of Iheanacho, which has clearly shaken his first struggles in the club.
He could have had a goal himself in the 15th minute after breaking one by one free, but he could not find the end.
Another opportunity came just before halftime when Mark Travers chose it, but once again, he couldn’t become.
The victory of Middlesbrough took them to fifth place in the championship, strengthening their impulse for a place in the playoffs and a possible return to the Premier League. Iheanacho was uploaded in the 85th minute, but his contribution had already sealed victory.
With his return confidence, the 28 -year -old striker is now in a solid position to press for a retirement of Super Eagles, especially with the next friendly tournament for four nations in June and more classification of the World Cup that is coming.
For a side of Middlesbrough with the aim of returning to first -class football, an Iheanacho, completely in shape and shot, could be the X factor they need.
