The Kogi State Government has announced its opposition to the planned nationwide protest against bad governance scheduled for August 1.
The state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said in a statement on Monday in Lokoja, that the people of the state would not participate in the protest.
He said the state fully supports the Federal Government’s efforts to revitalize the country’s economy.
Fanwo praised President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives aimed at helping the poor and expressed pride in the country’s resistance to “agents of destabilization.”
He highlighted the progress made in various sectors, including agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure, education and healthcare under the current government.
Fanwo stressed the need for citizens to support the government’s efforts, and said protests would only hinder the progress that has been made so far.

He said: “It is heartening that we have received reports that our citizens are ready to march in solidarity with the efforts of Mr. President in defending the economic interests of the poor. We are proud of the fact that Kogi people have refused to surrender the state to the macabre dance of agents of destabilization.
“Agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure, education and health care are getting due attention from the Federal Government.
“As responsible citizens, we need to support the government’s efforts at all levels to frontally address issues that threaten our well-being. A protest would be normal if the government did not make any efforts. A protest would be popular if those efforts have not yielded results.
“The protests would be understandable if we were not gradually emerging from a hopeless situation. However, the protests at this juncture are an attack on the foundation of our rebuilding process and an attempt to cast the nation into the darkness that was orchestrated during the destruction and carnage of #EndSARS.”
The commissioner likened the planned protests to an attempt to undermine the country’s rebuilding process, comparing it to the destruction and chaos that occurred during the #ENDSARS protests in October 2020.
