KOGI Government reconstitutional committee 26-members to overcome drug abuse

The Kogi state government has re -shaped the State Narcotics Control Committee (SDCC) which consists of 26 people as part of an effort to curb the threat of drug abuse in line with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP).

The Committee was inaugurated on Saturday at Lokoja by the Secretary of the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade, which illustrates the initiative in a timely manner given the increase in the prevalence of illegal substances throughout the state.

“We are all aware of the damaging effects of hard drugs in our society. This committee has been formed to drastically reduce the sale, distribution, and use of drugs in Kogi. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s Administration is determined to ensure the state does not become a safe paradise for drug dealers or perpetrators,” Ayoade said.

He demanded a committee member to work collaboratively and hold a regular involvement to reach their mandate, emphasizing that success will be translated into a safer and more orderly society.

SDCC attracts representatives from major institutions, including the National Narcotics Law Enforcement Agency (Ndlea), the Ministry of Health, Education, Youth and Sports, Women’s Affairs, Information and Communication, the Regional Government and the Affairs of the Chief, as well as the Humanitarian Group, the Traditional Ruler, the Chairperson of the Regional Government, the Pharmacy Body, the Civil Society Organization, and the Civil Society Organization.

Responding to the name of the member, Ndlea State Commander, Umar Mustapha Yahuza, who will lead the committee with the Governor’s wife, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, promised a total commitment to the committee’s purpose under the NDCMP framework. He praised the Governor of Ododo for rearranging the body.

NDCMP, was first introduced in 2015 in collaboration with the UN office on drugs and crime and supported by the European Union, functioning as a comprehensive Nigerian strategy for drug control. The latest 2021-2025 plans emphasize the prevention, care, rehabilitation, reintegration, and law enforcement, while urged the countries to build local structures to nomesticize policies.
