KPU begins distributing sensitive election materials in Edo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing sensitive materials to Edo’s 18 local government areas ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The distribution process began at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Benin on Thursday.

The materials were reviewed by representatives of various political parties, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and representatives of security agencies before being sent.

The state’s Regional Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Onuoha Anugbum, said the exercise was carried out to ensure a smooth conduct of the election.

At least 16 parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will field candidates in the election.

REC said: “We will be presenting sensitive materials to the 18 local governments today and hope that the Edo governorship election on September 21 will go smoothly.”

He ensured that all materials would arrive at the local KPU office by the end of this Thursday.

Anugbum added that the materials will be transferred to the Registration Area Center (RAC) on Friday.
