Kwara United U-19 team emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the National Youth League after an exciting 3–2 victory over Atlantic Business Football FA at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, Sunday.
The Junior Harmony Boys had a flight start when Yusuf Kareem opened the score in the 7th minute, establishing the tone of what would become a historic day for the team.
Yusuf Olatunji doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute, giving Kwara United a comfortable 2–0 advantage in part time.
Shortly after the restart, Saheed Aderibigbe added a third goal in the 47th minute, further strengthening Kwara United’s control in the game.
Despite a strong return effort by Atlantic Business, who withdrew two goals after shocking substitutions, Kwara’s side and resistant remained firm to ensure the trophy.
Harmony Boys’ impressive campaign was even more recognized with individual praise:
Coach Abdulkadir Jimoh was appointed the best coach of the tournament,
The goalkeeper’s sheriff secured the prize for the best goalkeeper,
Mohammed Abdullahi was voted as the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament.
Speaking after the game, coach Abdulkadir Jimoh praised his players for his determination and resilience, stating that winning the inaugural edition of the tournament is a testimony of his arduous work and the unwavering support of the club’s administration.
Among the dignitaries present in the final was the governor of the state of Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who personally presented medals both the winners and the runners -up, further highlighting the importance of youth development in sports.
