● He says NNPC Ltd is witnessing improved growth in crude oil production
The Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, has called on the military to sustain the war against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, saying the current attack against this menace has resulted in better growth in the country’s crude oil production.
Kyari made the appeal when he received in audience the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who on Tuesday led senior military officials on a courtesy visit to the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
“I personally call for a strengthened and sustained security commitment. This is because we have reached a new peak in production that we have not seen in the last three years. This is clearly linked to the sustained efforts of the armed forces and other security agencies to protect our critical assets, especially the pipeline infrastructure in specific areas where we are working closely with these agencies. We are already seeing the results translate into increased production,” Kyari said.
The GCEO, which commended General Musa and his team for their unwavering commitment to protecting the country’s critical hydrocarbon resources, particularly in the Niger Delta region in recent months, stressed that these achievements are crucial not only for Nigeria but also for the global energy community.
He expressed confidence that the CDS and his team will uphold the presidential mandate to mitigate security challenges impacting the country’s crude oil production.
“The security-dependent components of this effort are being effectively managed by you. Your coordinated and focused response is paving the way for better security engagement, particularly in the Niger Delta,” he said.
Earlier in his speech, General Musa said the visit was aimed at introducing the Monitoring Team to NNPC Ltd, which will be responsible for interacting with the Company and other stakeholders in oil producing regions to protect the nation’s critical hydrocarbon infrastructure.
While pledging commitment to improve the safety and performance of its troops, the CDS said the Army will support the assault and analyze the capabilities of the troops to improve their performance and strengthen their productivity.
He stressed the need to increase production for a prosperous economy and reassured on the need to collaborate with intelligence agencies, private security, state governments and host communities to improve performance.
“Working in silos will not give us the best results. I want to assure you that we will collaborate with the necessary stakeholders to achieve our set goals, as set out by Mr. President.”
