Lagos Football Association president champions grassroots football for Olympic gold in 2028 and World Cup glory in 2030

In an inspiring display of dedication to Nigerian football, seven young footballers from Lagos will embark on international careers, driven by the vision of bringing home Olympic gold in 2028 and reaching the FIFA World Cup Grand Final in 2030.

These strategic transfers, facilitated by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), are a testament to the association’s commitment to grassroots football.

Speaking on the transfers, LSFA President Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed stressed the importance of these moves for the future of Nigerian football.

β€œWith grassroots football, we are putting Lagos first and securing Nigeria’s future in football, especially by winning gold at the 2028 Olympics and reaching the grand final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup,” Liameed said.

Among the young talents heading to Europe and South America are Dino FC’s Okoro Ogonna, who will move to Westerlo FC in Belgium, and Mavlon FC’s Emmanuel Abah, who will join Jablonec FC in the Czech Republic.

Ikorodu City FC’s Uchenna Aririerisim and Imperial FC’s Kareem Peter are heading to Czech clubs Banik Ostrava FC and FC Vlasim respectively.

Meanwhile, Gift Akpama and Maduabuchi Chukwunyere of Charlesann FC will play for Skenderbeu FC in Albania, Blessing Edet of Dino FC will move to Caracas FC in Venezuela and Timilehin Adekunle of Dino FC will join Sabah FC in Azerbaijan.

These transfers are the result of initiatives such as the Jagaban Cup and the Lagos Supremacy Cup, grassroots tournaments designed to showcase young talents from Lagos to the best European scouts and agents. According to Liameed, β€œour strength is to give 100% attention to grassroots football.

Our joy is to see these kids smile as they progress in their careers. Grassroots football is the only way to put Nigerian football back on the pedestal.”

Under Liameed’s leadership, the LSFA remains committed to developing the next generation of football stars who will bring international recognition to Nigeria.
