Lagos government closes hotels, bars and other businesses due to environmental pollution

The Lagos state government has closed hotels and business outlets in the Ikorodu area of ​​the state over noise pollution and other environmental violations.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed this in a statement on his X account on Friday, said the move followed recent law enforcement operations in the area.

He lamented that some businesses, including hotels, bars, petrol stations, poultry farms and leisure venues continued to ignore the country’s environmental protection agency’s directives despite warnings.

The commissioner listed the affected businesses as Victory Hotel, Wendy Bar, Moore Gas Plant, Provider Farm and Poultry, Cloud 24, Little Palace Hotel, City Groove Lounge and Bar, Destiny Castle and BS Gold Warehouse.

Wahab wrote: “Therefore, these sites are temporarily closed to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

“LASEPA stresses the importance of business compliance with environmental standards, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a sustainable and harmonious environment for Lagosians.

“With repeated warnings issued to various businesses across the state, LASEPA remains steadfast in its commitment to strictly enforce the state’s environmental laws, ensure compliance and achieve a clean and sustainable environment befitting Lagos State’s status as the country’s Centre of Excellence.”
