Lagos Govt prohibits night construction

The Lagos state government has banned the construction of buildings at night in all states.

Therefore, the government has limited construction activities in the state to 7:00 to 18:00, from Monday to Saturday.

Commissioner of State for Physical Planning and City Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, gave a new direction in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of the Ministry, Public Affairs, Mr. Mukaila Sanusi.

He said the action was needed to protect the environment, curb the incident of building collapse, and improve the welfare of the population as a whole.
Olumide said: “This restriction must be obeyed by all stakeholders in the construction sector.

“This is for the public interest and will be upheld by relevant government agencies.”

He added that while the state recognized the dynamic nature of building a project, each request to work outside the specified hours must be done through formal applications and will be considered based on cases per case.

“The concession can be given but only after the complete test and evaluation,” he added.

The commissioner also urged the country’s people to be vigilant and proactive by reporting construction locations that violate the direction.

“We encourage the community to take their environmental ownership. If you observe construction activities that occur outside the approved time, please report to the appropriate authorities,” Olumide said.
