The state government of Lagos has announced a diversion plan before emergency repairs on independence/Mekwen bridge, the Marina/CMS route in and entrance.
The state commissioner of Lagos for transport, Oluwaseun Oshiyemmi, announced it in a declaration on Sunday 16 March 2015.
Oshiyemmi said that the diversion will begin on March 19 and last until May 26th.
He said: “During the repairs, the road to the National Open University of Nigeria (noun) through Bonny Camp Bridge a Independent Bridge will be closed to vehicles.
“In the same way, the service lane at the Bonny Camp Underpa Bridge Independent Bridge will not be accessible to motorists.
“However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will remain open to traffic.”
Oshiyemmi listed alternative routes for motorists to facilitate traffic flow during the repair period.
Oshiyemmi said: “Motorists who go to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way should use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adhesola Street, Falomo Roundabout, then Obafhemi Awolowo Road A Ring Road.
“Those who head towards the third continental bridge should take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road, Osborne Road, then link ring road.
“Motorists who go to the inner marina and CMS of Ahmadu Bello Way should follow Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Roundabout and Obafemi Awolowo Road to JK Randle Road.
“The drivers who head towards Ahmadu beautiful way from inner navy or CMS pass through access to available traffic.”
Oshiyemmi has ensured residents that the Lagos state traffic management authority (Lastma) would have managed traffic during the different period.
The commissioner urged all motorists to remain patient while closing the partial road.
He added that repairs are part of the traffic management plan by the Federal Ministry of Work for Road Rehabilitation in Lagos.
