The Lagos state government has increased its campaign to protect road users by reaching a large number of dilapidated vehicles operating in the city.
This determining action, pioneered by vehicle inspection services (VIS), came in response to the developing concerns about the proliferation of unreachers that were not badly maintained that pose a big threat to public safety.
Engr. Akin-George Fashola, Director of VIS, confirmed intensive law enforcement during the weekend, urged residents to be careful and avoid a clear dormitory vehicle in a damaged condition.
While the exact amount of the vehicle that was confiscated was not disclosed, Fashola emphasized the worrying conditions of many of them, citing outdated components, inadequate maintenance, and lack of important security features.
Describing this vehicle as a “beat time bomb,” Fashola highlighted their involvement in many accidents throughout the lago, often resulting in death, injury, and property damage. He pointed to the critical defects commonly found in confiscated vehicles, including outdated tires, damaged brakes, and corroded body structures, making it unfit for commercial operations.
