Lagos judiciary announces Easter holidays

The Lagos State Judiciary has announced the 2026 Easter holidays, with judicial activities suspended from April 3.

This was stated in an official notice signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, and made available to judicial correspondents in Lagos.

The statement said the leave was approved by the Chief Justice of the state, Justice Kazeem Alogba, in line with Order 49 Rule 4(b) of the Lagos State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

The notice stated that normal court hearings would resume on April 10, 2026 while full court activities are expected to resume on April 13, 2026.

Despite the break, the judiciary assured citizens that measures have been put in place to address urgent matters during the holiday period.

Elias added that the designated judges on vacation will deal with urgent requests relating to cases already assigned to them. He added that applications not linked to any specific judge will be dealt with by judges specially appointed for this purpose.

It further noted that despite the provisions governing judicial holidays, any urgent case can still be dealt with during the period, provided that the conditions outlined in Order 49 Rule 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, are strictly followed
