Lagos orders evacuation of residents from police barracks

The Lagos state government has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents from Mopol Barracks 20 in the Onigbongbo area of ​​the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the agency’s emergency response team had assessed parts of the building and found them in a dangerous condition.

The permanent secretary added that the building and surrounding structures would also be evacuated immediately to prevent loss of life or property.

The statement read: “The agency has dispatched an emergency response team to the site and findings indicate that the building and surrounding people should be evacuated immediately. We are implementing an emergency response plan that includes assessment, safe and orderly evacuation, and controlled demolition.

“Under the strict supervision of the Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu administration, we will carry out this preventive demolition action considering the unsafe condition of the building and the possibility of further incidents that may occur if not addressed.”
