The Lagos State Police Command has announced a ban on the road procession during the Egungun Masquerade Festival this year, directed that all activities are limited to approved Tamalan points and specified places.
Command explained that the decision was taken to prevent violence, damage to property, and increasing clashes among rival groups in various parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Police Community Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “The Lagos State Police Command with this announced the restrictions on all the Egungun Masquerade Festival activities to appoint the point of sightseeing and places of celebration.

“This instruction prohibits practitioners from being involved in public processions or marching on the streets to ensure safety, and protection of life and property, and also protect and ensure that the rights of adherents and followers of religion and other religious groups do not violate or persecute during the current Egungun Mask Festival.”
Hundeyin stressed that the direction was aimed at maintaining public peace as tension among rival groups of Egungun has increased in recent days.
He further warned that anyone who disturbed public order or violated the rights of others during the celebration would face strict legal consequences.
