Lagos power brokers support Tinubu on the State Police …

Two important leaders in the State of Lagos, the head Tajudeen Osusi and Mr. Gbolahan Yishawu have declared a strong support for the push of President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the State Police.

Obusi is the President of the Consultative Council of the Governor of the State of Lagos and Yishawu is a member of the Chamber of the State Assembly, which represents the ETI-OSA Electoral College II.

They described the State Police as a vital step in the agenda of renewed hope of the president to face insecurity and deepen true federalism.

The duo revealed it to the tenth meeting of the electoral college organized on Thursday by the Chamber of the Lagos assembly.

The news agency of Nigeria (Nan) recalls that the president Tinubu on Wednesday reiterated that the establishment of the State Police remained inevitable, if Nigeria has to overcome insecurity.

The president’s declaration came when the north elderly people urged him to declare a state of emergency in the north, following a prolonged insecurity that had devastated his socio-economic life and the development of the region.

The meeting of the Electoral College, which was held simultaneously through the 40 state election colleges, has “governance in action: the earnings of the renewed agenda of hope” as the theme.

Ommits said that security has remained the basis of national stability, adding that governors must be directly involved in the protection of lives and properties.

According to him, the request for Tinubu for the state police reflects a return to the previous system of native authority of Nigeria, who provided community -based security.

“Safety is very important; if you are not sure, you cannot sleep well or live freely in your homes; that’s why the president is making the governors to take the necessary measures.

“There must be police presence in the areas of the local government and department levels to collect intelligence and act quickly.

“The state police are not new: it is a awakening of what has worked for us in the past and will benefit from all the Nigerians,” said Osusi.

Yishawu praised the president to decentralize governance.

The legislator observed that the devolution of power in critical sectors such as electricity and transport had already produced progress.

He therefore said that the police should also be transformed to make security more effective.

“In true federalism, states should be the drivers of key policies; just like the production of donated energy has brought about electricity to people, the police donate will help us fight insecurity in a more effective way.

“Yes, there will be challenges but the State Police is the right way to go. Under Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, I think it is not just possible, it is achievable,” said Yishawu.

The legislator added that the renewed agenda of the hope of Tinubu concerns the remodeling of governance to bring the solutions closer to the people.

“We can always change the Constitution to reflect the realities of our time; hope guides change and with hope, we can build a safer and stronger nation,” he said.
