Lagos State Electoral Commission orders trial of 4 officials for unprofessional conduct

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered the orderly trial of four officers for unprofessional conduct.

State police command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the trial in a statement on Wednesday.

He said officers also arrested 27 civilians for allegedly attacking police officers on legitimate duty, including a traditional leader.

The spokesman said the CP ordered that the entire police team seen in the viral video be immediately tried in the courtroom in an orderly manner, for attacking the suspect who was said to have resisted arrest.

Hundeyin disclosed that the Alausa Police Division on Monday deployed its officers to Makinde Odewale Street, Oregun, Ikeja, after receiving numerous complaints about alleged “flagrant drug abuse.”

The spokesman said: “However, the police officers faced stiff resistance resulting in a Police Inspector being seriously injured, having been stabbed in the head with a broken bottle.

“The resisting suspects also attacked the Olu of Alausa and the CDA Chairman. The injured inspector is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The joint team managed to arrest a number of suspects who were found carrying evidence suspected to be crystal methamphetamine.

“However, the team members used unprofessional, unethical and disrespectful methods in their efforts to secure the arrest of the mastermind behind the attack on the police officers captured on video.

“CP Fayoade strongly condemns the actions of the police as they are not in line with the values and ethics of the Nigerian Police profession.

“He also condemned the actions of the youths who attacked police officers, and warned that anyone found guilty in this matter would be prosecuted according to the law.”
