The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force has arrested six persons, including two women, for alleged illegal roadside sale of petroleum products.
The agency’s spokesman, Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said the task force conducted a sting operation against illegal fuel sales in Fadeyi, Maryland, Charity Bus Stop and Airport Road where the six suspects were arrested.
The spokesman added that the suspects were caught red-handed hawking petrol to motorists at exorbitant prices, further exacerbating the already tense situation facing Lagos residents.
The statement read: βThe practices of the arrested suspects not only place a burden on already struggling motorists, but also pose a significant safety risk due to the highly flammable nature of petroleum products.

βWe are committed to curbing these illegal activities and ensuring that the safety and welfare of the community is not compromised.
βThe actions of these black market operators are not only cruel but also pose a serious threat to public safety, as improper handling and storage of gasoline can lead to catastrophic fires.β
He warned individuals or groups who collude with petrol station attendants to sell petroleum products to stop immediately or face the risk of arrest and prosecution.
He assured that his institution would continue to take firm action against illegal petroleum traders.
The spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court and the seized petroleum products would be handed over to the Lagos State government through the courts.
