The Lagos State Task Force has conducted a clean-up exercise along Mile 2 Oke of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, removing illegal shacks, roadside traders and confiscating 2,000 litres of petroleum products.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Agencyβs Director of Press and Public Affairs, Abdulraheem Gbadeyanka, the exercise was necessary to address the growing challenges posed by roadside vendors and mushrooming shacks in the area.
Gbadeyanka stated, βIn the past few months, the stretch of road along Mile 2 Oke has been plagued by illegal roadside activities resulting in severe traffic gridlock, an alarming increase in traffic-related robberies and overall environmental degradation.β
He added, βThe spread of settlements not only disrupts the smooth flow of traffic on the route, but also becomes a breeding ground for criminal acts, which endangers the lives and property of drivers and passengers.β

The agency found that street vendors were also illegally trading in petroleum products, and the arrested suspects would be charged to court, and the goods recovered would be confiscated, Gbadeyanka said.
One of the most pressing issues being addressed is the illegal sale of petrol and diesel on the roadside, where more than 2000 litres of petroleum products were seized.β
He stressed, “This is a very dangerous practice and carries a high risk of causing fire and explosion. We will ensure that activities that endanger the lives of black marketeers and other road users are stopped completely.”
