Lagos taskforce cracks down on drug nests in Gowon Estate, arrested 19 suspects

In an effort to clamp the crime of the streets and drug trafficking, the Lagos State Task Force on Wednesday arrested 19 suspects after the targeted attack at the Criminal Hiding place at the Gowon Estate and its next door.

Operation, which was carried out as part of a sustainable law enforcement effort ahead of the Eid al -Fitr celebration, revealed a series of disturbing illegal substances. Officers found several hard medicine pockets, including Colorado, Indian flax, narcotics, and other controlled substances, many of which were hidden in parked car boots.

The Chairperson of the Task Force, Head of the Police Inspector (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, said the attack was driven by credible intelligence and was the fifth in a series of strategic operations aimed at dismantling illegal drug networks and maintaining law and order throughout Lagos.

“Our zero tolerance approach to criminal activity remains firm,” Akerele said. “This arrest underlines our commitment to protect the life and welfare of the population. We cannot let crime develop, especially during such a sacred period.”

Akerele noted that the task force not only focused on acts of punishment but also to restore public confidence in state security architecture. He urged the lagosians to be proactive by reporting suspicious activities through a campaign ‘seeing something, saying something’ the government.

“The public is our strongest ally,” he said. “We urge residents to remain vigilant, share information, and work with law enforcers to keep our community safe.”

Residents of Gowon Estate, many of them have long voiced concerns about increasing insecurity in the area, welcoming the operation, describing it as an urgent intervention.

The task force emphasized that similar raids will continue in all black spots identified in the state, reaffirms its mission to create a safer and free of drugs for all.
