Monthly environmental sanitation drills in Lagos State will resume after a gap of 10 years on April 25.
The exercise was stopped by the state government in November 2016.
This was stated by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in his statement on Saturday.
He said: “I am pleased to inform all Lagosians that the monthly environmental sanitation activities will resume effective Saturday, April 25, 2026, held on the last Saturday of every month from 06.30 to 08.30.
“During this period, residents are instructed to clean the surrounding environment, clean the drainage channels in front of their houses, and dispose of rubbish properly as a resident’s responsibility.”
The commissioner urged the people of the state to view this initiative as a collective duty to build a healthier city, and stressed that the government would ensure strict compliance.
“This exercise is a shared responsibility and an important part of our commitment to making Lagos cleaner, healthier and more flood-resilient. And this must be supported by the full law enforcement efforts of the Lagos State Government.

“Let me say this formally and boldly. The Governor and his deputy took a very bold step. For those who don’t know, before 2016, we had a culture that emphasized cleanliness as a sideline to piety.
“Once every month, we take time to clean the surrounding area and keep it sparkling, but over the years, we stopped.
“Currently, the challenges of waste, debt and the environment have become real challenges for us as a country. It took us more than a year to debate, discuss and agree that it is time to reintroduce the monthly environmental sanitation program,” said Wahab.
