The coach of Leeds United of the English Premier League, Daniel Farke, has revealed that Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge, signed in the January transfer market from Remo Stars, has a chance of playing in the first team.
Ngenge, who played for the Nigerian senior national team’s B team in the CHAN tournament, is on a six-month loan at the club, which has the option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
The 18-year-old is currently with the U21 team, where his performances will be monitored for possible promotion to the first team, but Farke says they are in no rush to see him team up with them, even though he has as much of a chance of playing for the first team as any other player on their books.
“Everyone who signs a contract for us, for Leeds United, also has the opportunity to participate,” Farke said at a press conference when asked if Ngenge will be in the first team in the short term.
“But that depends on performances at youth level and impressing in the games there, impressing in training.
“And if you have the opportunity to participate in team training, then you have a chance.
“But this is also a signing for our Under-21 team.
“So we don’t intend to be eager to get him involved as soon as possible, it’s more of a natural progression.
“He will be with our youth, we will give him time to adapt and it is not the plan to rush anything with him.”
