Brahim Diaz’s stoppage-time goal gave Morocco’s Atlas Lions a 1-0 win over Lesotho in Group B, Matchday 2 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Lesotho have suffered two consecutive defeats in AFCON qualifying, going down 3-1 to the Central African Republic.
The match, which was played in Agadir, Morocco, with Lesotho as the home team, saw Diaz score in the 93rd minute.
Morocco, hosts of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, have won their first two matches and lead Group B.
The Central African Republic is second in the group with three points, while Gabon and Lesotho are third and fourth respectively without any points.
Central African Republic and Gabon will face each other on Tuesday in their second group match.
Lesotho are in the same group as Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In the first round of World Cup qualifying, Lesotho surprisingly drew 1-1 with the Eagles in Uyo.
After four matches in Group C, Lesotho are in fourth place with five points, having recorded one win, two draws and one loss.
The Eagles are fifth with three points after drawing three and losing one of their four games.
