Like Asuu, a Polytechnic lecturer threatens to strike

The Academic Staff Polytechnic Union (ASUP), has given the Nigerian Ultimatum government for three weeks to complete the arrears of the salaries of its workers or they will start an unlimited attack.

Chairman of the Technology Chapter Yaba Asup, Monday Ojo, who gave a warning to a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, warned that the government’s failure to solve problems that affected the union would negatively affect polyteknik education in Nigeria.

The latest threat will soon occur after the University Academic Staff Union (ASUU) also threatens to strike if the Nigerian government does not respect the previous agreement achieved on the welfare issues of its members.

Ojo who spoke on behalf of the National President of the Trade Union, Shammah KPANJA, said the decision was taken at the New -New -New Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

Ojo said Asup had expressed concern over what he described as a disturbing development that threatened the stability of the Polytechnic education sector.

According to him, the Nigerian government has not been able to make a commitment to solve the problem.

“This has made us have no choice but to issue this ultimatum. Our holder is so that the Federal government overcomes problems with satisfactory,” Ojo said.

“The main problems raised include non-release circular for strange academic allowances, arrears that have not been paid from a salary review of 25/35 percent, and continuing discrimination against HND holders.

“Our members are motivated by unpaid promotional arrears, with some coming from 2019. This situation is unacceptable and the worsening of morals in the institution,” he said.

Continuing, Ojo condemned interference that violated the law of union activities by security agents, emphasizing that Asup was not satisfied with the inability of the federal government to form a dedicated Polytechnic Commission.

“If this problem has not been resolved after 21 days, we might not have the choice but to declare trade disputes and attract our services nationally,” he warned.
