Like the Benue pupils received the president Tinubu

The video went into circulation, showing the children of the schools standing in the rain to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his visit to Benue’s state.

The movie, which has become viral on social media, shows young pupils in line on the eyelash of the road in Makurdi, singing the national anthem while the convoy of President Tinubu has passed.

Their faces were deliberately blurred for privacy, but the conditions in which they found themselves – soaked and shivering in the rain – triggered strong criticism.

President Tinubu arrived in Benue on Wednesday, days after a brutal attack on Yelweta, in the area of the local government of Guma, where more than 100 people were killed according to what was reported.

The attack is the last of a series of violent accidents that have afflicted the state.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), violence has churned out over 6,500 residents.

Despite the government of the State Benue who declares a public holiday to “honor” the visit of the president, the pupils were made to take sides in the rain: an act that many Nigerians have been condemned as deeply inappropriate and exploiting.

Reacting to the accident, Yemi Adamolekun, executive director of Bagg is enough (Eie) Nigeria, has called him a “crime”, questioning the absence of intervention by religious institutions and local human rights.

“This is a crime! There is no one in Benue who can go and get those children? A bishop; an imam? Parents? National Commission for Human Rights? What’s wrong with us?” He wrote on X (previously Twitter).

Other Nigerians have also expressed their anger.

A user, Joseph Anyaa, described the event as proof of a “slavery government system”, adding, “I have never seen such a useless government”.

Another user, known as latent, called “political evil”.

The accident rekindled conversations on the treatment of children in political events and the largest implications of the use of state resources and school pupils for the ceremonial perspective between the current security and the humanitarian crises.
