Lima Killed, 8 Injured in a Gombe Car Accident

At least five people were killed in a car accident in Biliri, the Headquarters of the Billiri Regional Government Area in the Gombe State on Monday.

The victims were two men and three women.

Spokesman for State Police Command, Buhari Abdullahi. Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday in Gombe.

He said eight other injured people were currently receiving treatment at the Federal Gombe Hospital and the Billiri General Hospital.

The statement reads: “The Gombe State Police Command wants to tell the general public about the tragic incident that occurred today, April 21, 2025, in the Billiri Regional Government area involving heavy task trucks.”

“A trailer truck that carries seeds from the state of Adamawa to Gombe, lost control due to brake failure when approaching the meeting of Christian believers who were in the procession to celebrate the Easter season in the city of Billiri.”

“The vehicle turned from the road and tragically ran to the crowd, including some Muslim residents who watched from the roadside.”

PPRO added that, “Police Operations from the Billiri Division quickly responded to the difficulty, giving immediate rescue efforts and delivered injured victims to the nearest hospital for emergency medical care.”

“After the incident, several young people who were harmed in the area burned vehicles, looted several people’s shops and then lined up to the Billiri Division Police Headquarters.”

“In an effort to express their anger, the young people began to throw stones and other dangerous objects at the officers on duty.

“Division police officers and several other police personnel suffered various levels of injury during riots. However, normal conditions have been restored.”
