Lookman Eagles, the best player against Benin

Former Nigeria goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has described Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman as the best player against Benin in Saturday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Let’s remember that Nigeria broke the tie just before half-time with a great individual shot from Lookman, who cut in from the side before scoring.

Osimhen, making his first appearance of the season after joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last week, scored the second goal in the 78th minute. He was left unmarked in front of goal and cleared a deflected cross from Wilfred Ndidi.

Lookman added a third five minutes later with a smart angled header from Moses Simon’s cross, giving Nigeria revenge for their 2-1 defeat in Benin in a World Cup qualifier three months ago.

Reacting to Lookman’s impressive performance, the former Enyimba goalkeeper, who was a guest on Afrosports AFCON coverage claimed he was a constant threat to Benin’s defence.

“I’m really impressed with Ademola Lookman’s impressive performance against Benin. He was a constant threat to the Benin defence whenever he had the ball.

β€œHe knows how to lead the attack and was rewarded with a beautiful double. I am not too surprised that he has been named among some of Europe’s top stars for the Ballon d’Or award.”
