LSFA reduces the prohibition of Smart City FC to a year, reduces financial sanctions

The Football Association of the State of Lagos (LSFA) has announced a reduction in the sanctions imposed on the Smart City Football Club, reducing the initial prohibition of two years to one year and reducing the financial penalty of ₦ 6 million to ₦ 3 million.

This decision follows an appeal of clemency presented by the Club Management.

The ruling was delivered after a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of LSFA, held on Monday, March 2, 2025 at the Surulere Secretariat of the Association. The session, chaired by the Vice President of LSFA, Adedotun Coker, received the complete assistance of the members of the committee. Representatives of Smart City FC, including Alhaji Kamaldeen Olawoye, the Secretary of the Wale Apholayan Club and the Manager of Adebiyi Eye team, presented their case, expressing remorse and emphasizing the impact of the sanctions on the races of the players.

Key considerations and decisions:

  1. Welfare of players and professional impact: The Committee recognized the long -term effects that a prolonged prohibition could have on the races of the club players and considered this to reduce the suspension period.
  2. Proactive response of the club: The immediate action of the club to stop and deliver the violent fanatic responsible for the incident to the police authorities was a significant factor in the decision of the committee to reduce sanctions.
  3. Duration of Revised Prohibition: The suspension was reduced to one year, and the first three months (March -Junio of 2025) served as an active prohibition. In addition, Smart City FC will be excluded from participating in the State President 2025/2026 Lagos.
  4. Financial sanctions: The initial fine of ₦ 6 million was reviewed and reduced to ₦ 3 million.
  5. Competition restrictions: Smart City FC is still inelegable to participate in all football competitions sanctioned by LSFA during the suspension period.

The LSFA emphasized that while the reduction of sanctions aims to safeguard the races of the players, the association remains committed to maintaining the discipline and defending the integrity of football in the state of lakes.
