Lekan Fatodu, general director of the Sports Commission of the State of Lagos, honored the grand final of the Jagaban 2025 football championship on Thursday at the inherited launch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The tournament, organized in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saw intense competition among eight teams for four days.
In an exciting final, SGFC, based in Ilorin, faced 36 Lion FC. After a goalless draw in the regulation time, SGFC was victorious with a 5-4 victory in the criminal shooting, claiming the coveted trophy of the Jagaban Cup.
As part of his commitment to the development of base football, Fatodu made a generous donation of ₦ 200,000 to the winning team, SGFC.
Since its appointment at the beginning of 2024, Fatodu has played a key role in the revitalization of the sports sector in the state of Lagos, focusing on the development of talent and greater support for local competitions.
The main coordinator of the championship, Hajji Gafar Liameed, who also serves as president of the Football Association of the State of Lagos, expressed satisfaction with the high level of competition and discipline that all participating teams show.
He assured those interested that the plans are underway to expand the tournament in future editions while maintaining their current format.
“This championship embodies the values of President Bola Tinubu (discipline, high moral standards and empowerment of young people through football,” said Liameed.
A total of 14 games were played from the group stage to the finals, with an impressive 38 goals marked throughout the tournament.
The event further consolidated its reputation as one of the most anticipated base soccer championships in Nigeria.
