Major retired major was killed by the launch of the N10M Ransom Payment – Police Kogi Confirmation

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the Brutal Retired Murder Major Joe Ajayi, who was killed by his kidnappers despite the N10 million ransom payments made by his family to secure his release.

Spokesman for the command, SP Williams Ovye-Waya, revealed that the development on Monday in Lokoja, revealed that the 76-year-old man was kidnapped from his home in Odo-Ope, the Kabba-Bunu Regional Government area, on May 21.

Ovye-Waya stated that Ajayi’s body had been found and stored in the Kabba Specialist Hospital, a detail that was strengthened by the Bunu leader forum.

“The order will not leave the stone that is missed in uncovering the people behind the cowardly acts and arresting them and making them face the wrath of the law,” he vowed.

Providing additional details, Chair and Secretary of the Bunu Leader Forum, Prof. Olu Obafemi and Dr. Ade Aberida, each, confirmed that the kidnappers initially demanded N50 million in a ransom. However, due to the inability of the family to meet the demands and decreased health of retirees officers, the kidnappers then reduced the ransom to N10 million.

“The kidnappers then reduced the ransom to the N10 million after learning that his condition was very important.

“The family, who reportedly thought that he was still alive, quickly agreed and paid a ransom to the kidnappers.

“After that, the kidnappers directed the family to where they could find it, but surprisingly, they only found their lifeless bodies,” the forum leaders said.

Reacting to the incident, Senator Sunday Karimi, who represented the West Kogi Senatorial District, described the murder as a tragic and unacceptable action.

“This is a very unfortunate and sad development,” Karimi said in a statement issued at Lokoja.

He also expressed his deep concern about the increasing wave of insecurity in the district.

“All of West Kogi is now surrounded in the hands of the kidnappers, with people afraid to leave their homes,” he complained.

This incident has sparked widespread and calling for fast justice, because the population and stakeholders urged the authority to act decisively to end the threat of kidnapping in the state.
