Malia’s transitional government said in a statement on Friday that it had declared a “state of national calamity” following flooding caused by heavy rains that have hit the country in recent days.
According to the statement, since the start of the rainy season in June, some 7,077 families across the country have been affected by floods, leaving 47,374 people displaced or affected.
According to a decree issued at the end of an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday, Assimi Goita, the transitional president, decided to provide the government with a budget of 4 billion CFA francs (about 6.8 million US dollars) to deal with this “natural disaster”.
