The monitoring and evaluation team, led by the program assistant of the program, Auwal Ibrahim Jauro, explained that the program, with the support of the United Nations Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is a three -month activity planned to provide free nourishing food to 1,845 malnutrites targeted under five years of age.
He stated that the intervention program is aimed at 874 children in the LGA rope Damagum community, as well as 947 of the Dachia community of Jakusko LGA, mostly malnourished children who have been discharged from hospitals and those of vulnerable families.
He also revealed that the program would also form 10 health women in each community implemented on the production of Tom Brown. These women will therefore make gradual training for vulnerable families in all communities on how to prepare Tom Brown for their families.
During the awareness campaign, Jauro explained that Tom Brown is a traditional Nigerian food supplement made with a combination of different cereals and agricultural products of local origin such as soy, mile, corn seeds and peanuts.
“Tom Brown is usually consumed for breakfast, often as a porridge. Its high nutritional content makes it particularly advantageous for infants, young children and women who breastfeed to prevent malnutrition and support for weight gain,” he said. Therefore, the need for the members of the community to take Tom Brown’s production very seriously, as it also has numerous advantages.
Previously, the team paid tribute to the Damagum district head, to the sale of Alhaji Idris Mai and the head of the village of Dachia, Alhaji Maman Dada, as part of their defense mission to the communities. Traditional leaders have ensured their full support to ensure that the program achieves its desired goals.
The expansion of Tom Brown’s production presents multiple benefits such as the generation of economic opportunities, in particular for women and young people, supporting local farmers and guiding sustainable growth, improving government resources through greater economic activity and contributing to long -term resilience respectively in food safety and nutrition.
